Description

Walk Leader Training - July 14th

Do you live in Kilburn?

Would you like to:

  • increase your activity?
  • engage with your community?
  • get to know your neighbourhood better?
  • help others to do the same?

SHAK and the Community Champions are delighted to be teaming up with Living Streets to deliver a one-day training session to help you do all of the above. This will be followed by a series of regular walks led by the community, for the community.

Following the training, individuals will have an understanding as to how they can:

  • Help people discover and make the best of their local area on foot
  • Give people the confidence to walk on their own as well as in a group
  • Welcome as many people as possible by keeping walks easy and accessible
  • Involve local communities and organisations
  • Show how easy, enjoyable and sociable walking can be
  • Demonstrate all the benefits of walking
  • Help make the case for improving the places people walk.

All trainees will be provided with a printed ‘Walk Leader Manual’ to keep, which contains

reference information relating to the training, together with some useful templates for

planning, promoting and risk assessing future led walks.

The training session will cover the following topics:

  • Why lead walks?
  • The role of Walk Leaders
  • Before, during and after led walks
  • Demonstration led walk
  • Troubleshooting
  • Route planning
  • Risk management
